How OCTA can save bus service, with money they already have

The Transit Advocates found that OCTA has quite a few funds at its disposal to help save Orange County's bus service from further cuts. They've put together a brief report detailing all the possible savings that could literally help prevent Night Owl service from getting cut, and how public transit funding in Orange County has been raided quite often for non-public transit projects.

Overall, it's a pretty dry read for non-policy wonks, but you can download the Transit Advocates's 2-page report here. It outlines some of the many ways OCTA could save money:

  • Stop printing bus schedule, books, and system maps.
  • Redirect funds from widening Bristol Street, CURE, and other Measure M and M2 projects.
  • Re-apply section 5307 to make sure our buses keep running.

OCTA staff prepared a version, revealed at a recent Finance Committee meeting, with staff responses. It's a one-page response — again, dry, not very sexy stuff with words I myself don't understand. It provides some glimmer of hope that funding for OCTA's bus system can be salvaged, but most of their responses seem to fall under the "we can't do this"/"we don't know how to do this" category, unfortunately.

They should keep printing the bus book and system map, but they should be sold for a profit. I'd be willing to pay as much as $5.00 for the bus book if they brought back the old paperback format.

Advertising/coupon inserts could be used for additional revenue.

Eh, I like having it but I could live without it.

OCTA should stop wasting

OCTA should stop wasting funds on expensive and ineffective freeway improvements. Everybody pays measure M taxes, not just automobile owners. Where are all of the stimulus funds going? There is not a single light rail in Orange County, despite what we were promised. People should be in jail for this fraud.

You're possibly right. They even waste money on bus wraps advertising themselves and USA patriotism. These things do nothing but make riders miss stops because they cant see out the window and get sick because of the odd eyestrain caused by it. Basically OCTA does not care about bus riders or public transit. They build highways and that is their empire building. Should they go to jail?
Well I think enough material is surfacing to start a grand jury investigation. Just like when OCTD was lackadaisical about starting service after it was formed. Much worse this time!

Here is an old rule! If you want to be really successful in affiliate marketing, you ought to drive traffic to your website. The more visitors to the website, the higher the probability of click through. Many affiliate guides forget to mention that it is always prudent to build traffic first and then consider affiliate marketing. There is no magic potion. If there is no traffic, there are no profits. Don’t worry, if you haven’t got hordes of visitors, even a few visitors will do initially. Once these visitors start trickling down the web drain, you can place banners and advertising in appropriate places to get the results. A good affiliate marketer doesn’t care about the number of clicks but on the average number of clicks per visitor.
Such techniques, slowly but surely brings success. And with it comes a potential for much higher rewards
